Sacred Space and Contested Landscapes
Dr. Brennan Keegan, Randolph College
Thurs, Jan 30 @3:30, Education Center Room 118, 25 St. Philip St.
What makes a space sacred? And who gets to decide? Looking to natural landscapes, national monuments, and the built environment, this lecture investigates how sacred space is created, recognized, and fought over by diverse communities. With a focus on how race and ethnicity shape sacred spaces, Dr. Keegan will engage the audience in an analysis of some of the overlapping and contested spaces of the United States, including those produced and venerated by Native Americans, outdoor enthusiasts, and American nationalists.
