Mayor John J. Tecklenburg issued a proclamation declaring January 2020 to be Interfaith Harmony Month. The proclamation was read at 11 AM on December 30, 2019. Thank you for all who joined the communities in Charleston for this monumental occasion at Charleston City Hall, 80 Broad Street.

During the Charleston press conference, we read the Mayor’s proclamation in a unique way. Children from 12 different traditions participated, each child reading a line from the proclamation. Children representing Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity Greek Orthodox, Islam, Judaism, and more were present.

Music was provided by acclaimed Charleston singer, composer and pianist Heather Rice.

Mayor Tecklenburg  presided at the event. Additionally, interfaith events for the month of January were announced.

This was a great way to cap off 2019 and begin 2020, in Harmony and for all the tri-county region to witness that Harmony.
